Yellin' About Day of Silence

The irony in that title is pure. Hehehe, oh I made a funny. But seriously, let's get down to business (to defeat... the silence). It's time to make a change.

The Day of Silence is an annual event that occurs mid-April every year to recognize the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Students, teachers, and administration members vow to be silent for an entire day to support those who have been made silent due to taunting, ridicule, and harassment.

When?
The Day of Silence this year is on April 11th, 2014. I know, that is the Friday before spring break for a lot of us. The event lasts from sunrise to sunset, or even later if you want to make a giant difference!

Why?
Look at this video, that's why.

Or this one!
How Do I Participate?
You and all your friends can be a part of Day of Silence in only a few simple steps. The first thing you need to do, is ask yourself, is this something I can really commit to? This is serious guys, it's no laughing matter. It is really challenging to be silent all day, but I know you can do it.

  1. Register at GLSEN.org: In order to make a real change, we need to show our strength in numbers. Imagine how incredible it would be if we made this Day of Silence the largest day yet!
  2. Inform Your Teachers: Unfortunately, Day of Silence does not permit you to purposely remove yourself from classwork and discussions. Although you have the right to free speech, GLSEN states that you must speak if your teacher demands that of you. If you tell your teachers before hand they are more likely to respect your wishes and permit you to remain silent in their class.
  3. See the Signs: Our best friend, GLSEN, has us all prepared for those annoying kids who make you want to scream even when you can't speak. I have attached links to all the hand cards, digital hand cards, taking a Selfie for Silence, cover photos, and everything else!
  4. Get Some Swag: Pssh, as if you need any right? Just kidding, there's a way to make this day super swagilicious by purchasing a t-shirt, wristband, button, etc. from the GLSEN web page
  5. Four Shouts for You, Glen Coco: Share the news! Spread the word! Make yourself heard (well, not really but you know, figuratively man)! Tell your internet friends about the change you're making! Tell your friends on Facebook and get your crazy relatives to comment on it! Show those celebrities you mean business and tweet all about it on Twitter! SHARE IT GUYS C'MON!
  6. Have Your Questions Answered: Still got a few questions about the event? Why you should participate? What Day of Silence is all about? Have no fear, Grace is here! Well, actually it's GLSEN that can answer all your questions... but I can help! If you have any major questions, check out the FAQ page or if you need something small answered, go to my bio and contact moi!

Guys, I don't always do posts like this, supporting a cause, but this is extremely important to me. I swear, every time I hear the word "faggot", "fag", "dyke", "tranny", or even "that's so gay" I want to start a revolution. This is our revolution. Listen to the words of my best broseph, Michael when he says "If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change".

Vive la revolution,
