A Day at Youth Theatre School

That my friend is a Christopher Turk burn delivered with grace and fierceness.

This is the reason I've been having to cancel plans with a lot of you guys this month. I've fondly been calling it "school" because it's too hard to explain in a quick text. I know, I know, who wants more school?

Let me be clear though, the only school worth going to in the summer is theatre school!

Wham! Bam! Slam... Poetry

Warning: major fangirling ahead. Reader discretion is advised.
I can't even count how
many times I've watched that movie anymore.
Courtesy of austinally.wikia

I really love poetry. I mean I have an entire board dedicated to it on Pinterest, it's maybe a third of what I post on Tumblr, and practically everything that fills all my journals. You think I'm kidding, but I have at least eight journals that I can just pick up and start writing things in for any situation.
If you're wondering, yes that is a cowgirl riding a pony on the American flag.
My childhood was memorable. Not to mention I can't even unlock that journal.

Now if I'm going to be all informational and maybe a bit educational I have to throw in a definition here and there because you all probably know that...

po·et·ry
ˈpōətrē,ˈpōitrē :" literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature."

Because who doesn't know the sophisticated and wordy definitions like Google off the top of a hat! How many of you know what slam poetry is though? You may have heard of it here and there, seen a few videos like the ones below, but what is it really?

The Many Summertime Struggles

I realized that my summer has already hit it's Midsummer Night minus the whole dream thing. It's the middle of summer, and I'm in a little bit of a crisis. Oh yeah, did I mention that it's July and that high school resumes it's session in August?

Just breathe, just breathe!

I'm not freaking out. I promise. Maybe that's a lie, but hey with my schedule I have a little bit to be worried about. Let's just say the word "honors" pops up by most of my classes, along with the word AP for a few. So I'd like my days to remain class free for as long as possible. Whether that be a month and some leftovers.
Oh barnacles...
So I thought, what else should I write about than the good, the bad, and the oh so interesting summer I've had so far? Recap time!!!

Grace's Guilty Pleasure: Gossip Girl

Okay. I lied, this post isn't going to be about school things related to my 10th Grade Honors English Assignment for the summer. It's going to be something that's a bit more... prevalent in my everyday life...

Camp Totally Rad

I haven't been too punctual recently, but trust me I have the greatest excuse any teenager can say during the summer... I was at camp. No, no, not the one's I'm working at Egyptian or Swaner, but me physically being a camper at a summer camp. Not only was I staying there for about four days, I was also staying overnight.

Where was this lovely experience taking place you may ask?

Oh maybe just the best place ever...

My Two Year Streak

You may or not still be reading this blog, but if you are... Congratulations! We have made it to summer vacation together! In honor of this mystic occassion, I have inserted this beauty for our intellectual pleasure.

So much greatness in only fifty-seven seconds. I personally think that Phineas and Ferb has one of the greatest theme songs of any children's show in the modern day. But that is not my point!

My point of all this... is to prove something along the lines of these gifs to you.

I am a clumsy person.

It's Olaf's Favorite Time of Year Again

Courtesy of rebloggy

Yup, you heard me right, it is summer at last. Okay, well not at last I mean I still have three days of school and it's not officially summertime till June 21st.
So close yet so far

Since it is nearly summer, I feel that a list of summer goals is in order. Not to mention... Did I even tell you what I was doing to spend my time in the sweet Utah heat? (Ha ha yeah right, more like dry abysmal drought)

Get To Know Grace

We're all goofy goobers yeah goofy goofy goober YEAH!
Courtesy of scratch.mit.edu

This is really late. Kind of super dooper, I'm a goofy-goober late... But for all of you who don't know me, I think that we should get to know one another. I should have done this in September for Pete's sake. Guess Pete didn't win this round... Anyways, I've been spending lots of time on Tumblr recently with a few of my close friends when we started playing a game:

Summer English Assignment 101

Since none of y'all want to listen to me rant about shows half as much as you want to hear about my life, I'm going to tell you all a secret... shh... It's confidential...

I've been wanting to use this one all year.
Courtesy of straightfromthea

This blog is going change drastically over the summer. I know, I'm as surprised as you are. Due to my admiration for the English language, I happen to be taking Honors English 10 (super-nerd sophomore English) next year. It's basically preparation for the Advanced Placement classes, English Language and English Literature. As I'm set on taking both of these classes, Honors English 10 is practically inevitable.

With Honors English comes an honorable task... I must read a book.
I. Can. Not. Physically. Wait.

If You Know Nothing About Theatre...

I know a lot of you only read this blog because I talk about my own life, a lot, and maybe a bit too often. I enjoy that, it's easy and simple, but that wasn't the intent of this blog. I need to stay true to the theme of this blog, or I'd be a bodacious blogger. I was reminded of this fact by my friend the other day when he complimented the "show" part of "Life As We Show It". Now, what kind of person would I be if I didn't completely geek out about the ten best theatrical shows? Not the Geeky Grace that we both know, GSquared don't roll like that.

Over the past weekend I faced an existential crisis when I was hanging out with my friends: what are the best Broadway shows and how do I state them without having my theatre friends rip me apart when we disagree?

I, uh, oh well I guess... I'll shut up
Courtesy of University of Sydney
The answer? Don't say a word. They may sound petty, but a simple discussion over "which show has a better female lead" can turn into World War III with the misuse of a single word.

"The Switch" Review

I feel like I've been talking a lot about my life recently and not enough about the real intention of this blog. The arts. So I'm getting back on track, pulling myself in a new direction as they say in The Addams Family. The other night I watched a fantastic movie, a kind of movie that just has you eating your popcorn (oh wait you're on a detox so you don't have popcorn ha!) and wondering, "How in the world will this end even though I think I know what will happen but hopefully I'm wrong". And thank goodness I was.
The entire movie my friends, this was me... minus the popcorn.
Courtesy of reactiongifs

The movie I watched was called "The Switch" and it was released only a few years ago in 2010. Many of you may know the lead roles from Arrested Development and Friends, and yes that is Rachel.

Springtime in a Nutshell

Hehe, puns.
I don't know about you guys, but the beginning of May is always such an interesting transition for me. You go from a blizarding behemoth of snow on your doorstep every single day to this muddy yet excruciatingly warm weather in less than two weeks. Of course this does allow for a few random showers and snow storms on your birthday every year or so, not like it got old five years ago. Thanks Utah. Anyways, the dawn of spring is upon us so we must commence the festivities!

A Day to Remember

Hey, hey look what I saw when I logged in this morning?
Oh yeah, that's right buddy, I hit three thousand views this morning. So as a remembrance of this wonderful day, I shall give you what you have all been wanting and continue to desire even though I promised this blog wasn't all about me: an excerpt of "ma teenage life".

A Horrible Sing-Along Blog Post

I was thinking about writing this blog post a long time ago when I discovered that my favorite show, oh well technically it's a short film, was taken off of Netflix! Now that may sound like no issue to you but what if I told you that this short film in question was Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog?!
Exactly.
Courtesy of googleplussuomi

Now do you get me? Honestly though, the pain and suffering that I have gone through without beautiful forty-two minutes of pure horrible bliss in my week is driving me insane. And why is this you ask? Because I'm kind of in love with this short-film and it has driven me into quoting sprees (that others can testify to) and I'm falling into an unhealthy relationship with.

(By the way, I just tried spelling relationship and I spelled relationshop. I'm shopping for those relations am I right ladies? Mmm hmm! Anywho, on with my tale of woe!)

How To Survive A Family Reunion

Over Spring Break I went to Detroit, otherwise known as "Motor City". No, no, I did not go there for the crippling economic times of the city, I actually went to see my family.
If you think that's a big family, I'm telling you right now,
that's not even the whole entire side of my Mom's family.

Scrubs-a-Dub-Dub

I am about to embark upon the hardest challenge I have yet to face... so that means I must binge-watch one of my favorite shows to get Day of Silence off my mind. Honestly, I don't think it's going to be that bad. I really don't, I just get these little thoughts like, "haha wouldn't it be funny if you accidentally spoke and ruined the entire thing during first period". Yeah, so I guess my logic is justified. What show have I been binge-watching?

Thoughts From A Library

At the moment I should be editing my research paper about Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender rights, but what am I doing? Mentally sobbing that I can't go on Tumblr Mobile (which is sad enough in it's own respect), browsing through centuries of destroyed LGBT pieces of art, and trying to download A Game of Thrones (the book series, you imbecile) on my school computer. That's educational right?

Well, I guess not. But sitting here, in this fantastic public library of mine I can't help but think to myself, "I live in a freaking rad city". Since my mother would beat me with a broom if I disclosed my city, let alone where my bedroom window is positioned, I will say I am in the largest city in a nearly perfectly rectangular state in the West that had gay marriage legal for two weeks. Salt Lake City, if you really had to guess. Take that Mom!
Oh snap, we got a rebel over here.

Yellin' About Day of Silence

The irony in that title is pure. Hehehe, oh I made a funny. But seriously, let's get down to business (to defeat... the silence). It's time to make a change.
Courtesy of LGBTQCenter
The Day of Silence is an annual event that occurs mid-April every year to recognize the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Students, teachers, and administration members vow to be silent for an entire day to support those who have been made silent due to taunting, ridicule, and harassment.

Happy Holi-Days

Okay guys, you can stop hiding. This weekend was incredibly special to me as even I was a bit nervous about this weekend because guess who had a Region Drama Competition and a Holi Festival to go to in two days? This girl right here.

So that left me feeling one of two ways:

"Oh my squash, hallelujah my day has come!"                          "Nope. Nope. Nopity-nope nope."

Book vs. Movie: Catching Fire

So it's been only four days and the "Should I Make a Video Singing Other People's Blog Posts" poll has already gotten a solid seven votes. Oh and guess what the results are at the moment?

I don't know, I think I might post a video...
no obvious majority.
Now that we've established the inevitability of serenading all of you, let us dive into a world of dystopia and girls on fire. We're going to Panem.

Illegally Blonde

Feminism in the movies? What is this thing you speak of? Do people actively campaign for social justice in rom-coms and dramatic films? Yes, yes they do. Some movies are so incredible that the subliminal message of girl power is quoted and repeated many years after it is released. That happens to be the case with one of my favorite films in existence: Legally Blonde.

Okay, maybe a bit overboard, but there is no problem with being a dreamer!

You Want Random? I'll Give You Random

Recently I have been obsessing checking the amount of votes on my "What Should I Write About" poll. After looking at it several times I now know that you all, or as people in my native state say, y'all want to know about music and my life! Oh be prepared for some wacky and weird things, because that is one interesting combination.

For each random situation that's going on, there will be a song to follows it up plus a review by moi. Today's concert consists of three selections, all of fresh, intriguing, and zesty proportions.

Back To The Future

As we all know, Back To The Future is an awesome cinematic masterpiece about the coolest kid on the block, Marty McFly, and his adventure thirty years into the past with Dr. Emmet "Doc" Brown to make sure his parents become a couple. This of course is one of the single greatest plot lines to be written in the history of man. Oh, and guess what? This happens to coincide with the fact that I cannot stand planning out the future. Thanks registration.

This is my head when the word "future" joins the conversation. 1.21 jigawatts of "wait what?"

How I Met Your---HOLD UP!

Oh gosh, I can't even begin to tell you
how sad this is to look at. Courtesy of imgur

The first time I watched How I Met Your Mother I was a wee pipsqueak at the ripe old age of ten. I remember turning on my picture box with my magical rectangle of control to only press the wrong button. I wished to watch Dancing With the Stars, as any young girl would, but I pressed the two button instead of the four. In my head I was thinking, "Crap, I'm missing Derek dance!" Yet little did I know that this small mistake would change my tv watching days forever.

Congrats you clutzy little runt

Birthday Boys

My brother turned eleven on Friday, meaning a whole world of chaos would erupt on Saturday when his party started. Since I am not eleven, and I am not a boy, I had no idea how this was going to end. Four tweenagers, three two-liter bottles of soda, and hockey skates. Lord help us.

My expression throughout the entire night. Schmidt understands me.
Courtesy of Mashable

Best Quotes:

"<boy's name>, you look really tired"
*stands up* "Oh no, I can party all night long"

Boy: "So if you see an ugly guy at school you go like this..." *goes in for high-five* "Oh wait!" *takes hand back and combs through hair* "smooooth!"

When I asked for a recording of that one of the boys said, "Suure baby, for five dollars I'll do it for ya!" Like when did you become a fifth grade smooth-talker? Oh and did I mention, I never got that video... why did I trust eleven year old boys?

*looking at a picture of the local figure skaters*
Boy: "Hey, bro, which one do you think is the hottest?"
Me: "B-but they're ten!"
Boy: "Still hot am I right?" (mind you, they're eleven)

When playing Slender (starring moi as Slender):
Me: "Just tell them that Mom wants all the boys inside for hot cocoa, they'll have to come down!"
Boy: "Oh no... that's too evil." His face was pure shock and amazement in my malicious plan.

The Cost of Broadway

All of the shows that opened in 2013! Courtesy of New York City Stage
Anyone who loves theatre or musical theatre eventually ends up on Broadway. Who knows if it will be on the stage, in the audience, in the pit, or in the crew, but eventually we get there. For most theatre geeks, they see their first Broadway show when they are entering tweendom, where most careers take off (unless you are a true Broadway baby). But... have you ever wondered about the price of theatrical perfection?

Now Entering the Bermuda Triangle

As defined by Wikipedia, the Bermuda Triangle is...

"also known as the Devil's Triangle, is an undefined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances."

Oh no, this is not the one I'm talking about...
Courtesy of Live Science
Honestly, if you asked most the people in my grade they'd probably say the same thing. There is a minority though, a small minority that knows exactly what I mean when I say I've fallen into the Bermuda Triangle. What is this minority you say?

Party Time

Ugh... Ugh... UGHHHHHH....

Why am I sighing with great emphasis you may ask? <sigh> I forgot to post my Day After Valentine's post before I went to a party.

What have I done. I'm sorry to have disappointed you. I know the drill, dishonor on me, dishonor on my cow, dishonor on my whole family. Why?! It was good, reeeal good. Of course, I can't go back and just edit it or anything because it talked about everything I did on Valentine's Day in a day after perspective. It was fantastic, and now I have failed you. I'm sorry readers, but I do have a surprise for you instead of that post if you'd like! Read on to see my special surprise!

Well I Tried...

Ahem, feel free to sing along to my song that summarizes the previous two weeks.

Right, right turn on the light

I'm gonna lose my mind tonight

Where'd my homework go?

I hate when there's oh so much,
5 a.m. why am I up?
Where's the cereal bowl?

Quizlet crasher, review snatcher

call me up if you got answers.
Don't be flashy, just stay classy

why's everyone dressed up?

So raise your glass flag if you were strong, in all these past days!

All my underdogs, we could really be, really be passing our classes,
but how would we know? Study little nerds...
so come on and raise your flag!

I've met only a few people who weren't completely exhausted by the end of this week. Thanks to my new favorite app,Finish., I know exactly what tasks I've completed this week down to the second. From Seussical to Science Fair there was no minute this chica wasn't doing something productive with her life.

Besides Netflix of course, every girl needs a break sometimes. (If you'd like to know, I'm writing this post to a good supply of Gossip Girl.)

I realized that focus, focus, focus is an insane motto for someone who's been stuck in a funk. I can't stand being in a funk, it's crippling. Sitting in a rut is not my ambition and neither is jumping into one. I'm getting out of this as soon as I can, it is break after all! Adios AP Geo, bonsoir biology, and see you later Leadership, Grace is going on break!
Courtesy of The T-Rex Runner

Tonight is my final night of exhaustion till break ends! All that's left is an incredible essay, a fantastic FRQ, and several radical reading notes to be written! Oh and don't forget my non-existent date for Valentine's Day, I can't cancel that again!

Till next time comrades, you know you love me,

xoxo

Seussical the Musical Part Two

Oh the thinks you can think when you think about Seuss!

Anything's possible when you make a collage about it!

What? No, I didn't just blog about Seussical last week... Oh wait... I did... Oh well, I've already started so it's too late to stop. Anyways, I am currently writing you all from a comfortable couch in my cozy home after a long and tiring three-ish months of rehearsals, tech, and of course, performances! My feet are killing me. Seriously, Gracie is in desperate need of a foot massage. Not to mention, I'm exhausted. I may have mentioned this before, but theatre is harder than it looks. Guess we know who's sleeping in tomorrow? Not me. I know, bummer right? Since the show is over I am now free to do whatever I please (which of course means more theatre I mean c'mon what did you expect).

Grace's Guide to Sundance 2014

If you're a local in Park City, this time of year means insane traffic, increased grocery prices, dodging tourists on the mountain, and oh, of course, the Sundance Film Festival.

Image courtesy of Film Budget Inc

So for those who are visiting the great city I call my own (and those who are trying to reclaim it from the those previously mentioned) I have made a basic guide to surviving and taking advantage of these next five days.
